Have you ever went to Walmart or to a photographer to have photos taken? I am sure we all have, especially for special occasions. You sit down then they pull down some type of backdrop behind you to help your photo look appealing. If you think about it, if someone passes around photos that has only a white or black background you will more than likely be "that's nice," but when you pass around a photo with some kind of background you will take that extra few seconds to say "wow that turned it really nice, you look so pretty in that photo."
It goes the same for displaying your cards. I have noticed if a photo has no background color of some sort, that I seem to skim by unless something on the card pops out at me, but when I see a card like in the Stampin' Up! catalog I will stop and say " now that is a nice card, wonder what all was used to make it." They use photo boards. Photo boards for some could be costly but you can use anything to create your background. You could use a piece of tile from flooring, a picture from your wall, a towel. Just anything to create interest for your photo.
Now this is the same card but on a wall hanging I found at Walmart and used it to be my photo board. See how the photo pops. I first see the stamp pad and then I follow along over to the twine and then I look at this stunning card! I then continue on to see what other elements are on the board to end with the die cut image. I am saying to myself "Oh, I like that rustic look, and where did they get the buffalo check at?" so now I am going to see what else they have to show about the card.

Here are some examples of photo's without and with a photo background.
Here is a card with only a white background or is it white. Yes I took the picture on a white background but it sort of looks gray. That is one of the downfalls of using white only. Your camera does not see all white, it also sees grays. So this kind of dulls the card. If I was looking at this in an email or online, I might look past it. The only thing that caught my eye is the copper snowflake.
What caught your eye on this picture?
